Private Home Rentals Offer the Ultimate Italian Experience for Next Year's Olympics: Italians Welcome Olympic Spectators into Homes
Millbrook, NY—April 18, 2005—Next February, athletes and spectators around the world will join together in Turin, Italy for the XX Olympiad's Winter Olympic Games. But with limited hotel accommodations in the city, many spectators are looking for alternative places to stay. In the true spirit of the Olympic Games, Italian families are opening their hearts and their homes to welcome visitors to their wonderful city which is rich in history and culture.
Ken Shelley and his skating partner, JoJo Starbuck, well remember the problems with housing at the XI Olympics in Sapporo, Japan. When they competed, their parents had to stay miles away from the arena, due to a hotel shortage. “Hotel accommodations have always been supplemented by private home rentals during the Olympics,” said Shelley, two-time Olympian and Vice President of Operations at Cross Country International. “However, in Turin, the shortage of hotel rooms, coupled with a strong demand to attend the 2006 Games by fans from all over the world, has made the need for lodging in private homes crucial.”
Cross Country International, in conjunction with Trekking Hellas Homes (THH) is offering a wide range of apartments, houses, and villas in Turin and the seven competition sites of Bardonecchia, Pinerolo, Cesana-Pariol, Cesana-San Sicario, Sauze d'oulx, and Sestriere for rent this Olympic season.
“The skiing, bobsleigh, and luge venues are particularly far from Turin, which makes hotel accommodations impractical for individuals interested in those events,” said Karen Lancaster, President of Cross Country International. “Private home accommodations provide a practical and affordable alternative to driving dozens of miles each day,” said Lancaster.
In addition to providing a “home away from home” in a private residence, the Cross Country International package provides a number of other services that will contribute to both a comfortable and secure stay in Italy including transportation to and from the airport, auto and mobile phone rental, and 24-hour call service for information and emergencies. Welcome packs, which contain necessary information to help visitors become acquainted with Turin and the Olympic venues will also be provided to Olympians and spectators on arrival in Turin.
